Tall Timber

This post has been a long time coming..

And the reason I didn’t write it sooner was because I wanted to blog about several dishes, not just one. I know its a big call, especially with the abundance of great cafes in Melbourne, but this is definitely a top favorite of mine. It never disappoints – whether its coffee, food or the staff.

Just down the road from the busy Chapel Street in Prahran, Tall Timber is located in the quieter part of Commercial Road. Come weekend time however, the lines can get ridiculous and the street is crowded with people waiting for a table. There’s one main room with a large communal table, white brick walls and wood finishes, a courtyard that revolves around a vibrant herb garden and there are seats along the sidewalk under large umbrellas. It’s busy and its loud, but once you taste the food you’ll understand why the line was so big to get in.

With each dish equally full of flavor, color and enticement, the menu is hard to chose from. I say the best option is to either share with friends or do what I do and come back several times to make your way through it.

A recent addition to the menu is the Middle Eastern Roasted Cauliflower with Chickpeas, Kale, Pomegranate, Dukkah, Poached Eggs, Feta and Lime. Beautifully plated, it is well balanced and generous. It was the dish I was most excited about trying and I find it hard to go back and not order it again… But I know I should keep moving through the menu!

Also pictured is the porridge. Oh my goooooodness the porridge! Perfect for winter and one of the better ones you’ll find in Melbourne. They say we eat with our eyes first, and just staring at this picture makes me hungry. The head chef, Ryan Lording, is all about vibrant, sexy food. Simple flavours, done well and this Vanilla and Cinnamon Porridge with Spiced Pear and Pomegranate is the definition of that. It makes my morning porridge at home so unappealing!

Here are some other favorites of mine from Tall Timber! Note: the lamb is one of the best dishes I’ve had all year..(and I eat out a lot haha)

I strongly recommend heading here on your day off, and if you’ve already been, go back and try a new dish! We are all so lucky to live in one of the best cities in the world for delicious food and amazing coffee, we’ve got to experience it to the fullest! : )
